SAFETY OVERVIEW

An Open Letter about Safety

Coaches, Assistants, Team Managers, and Parents,

In an effort to help our managers and coaches comply with our safety standards, the CAA Diamond Sports Program Committee has put forth a mandate of safety rules to be followed as outlined in this manual.

The commitment to this Safety Manual is assurance that we at CAA  are dedicated to protecting our youth athletes. Please read it carefully to familiarize yourself with safety fundamentals. Then use the manual as a reference guide throughout the season.

The following documents are found on the Documents Tab under Concussion Awareness and General Safety Resources:

  • Chanhassen Little League Safety Plan
  • CAA Little League Safety Presentation
  • Baseball & Softball Concussion Awareness Training
  • COVID-19 Fan Guide

CONCUSSION TRAINING OVERVIEW

  • Minnesota Legislature Concussion Law was passed on September 1, 2011
  • Mandates:
    • All coaches and officials receive concussion training and education (3-year intervals)
    • Coaches MUST remove athlete from activity if they exhibit signs or behaviors or are suspected of sustaining a concussion
    • Injury must be reported to the CAA Diamond Sports Safety Officer
    • Law requires health care professional signature to return to play if athlete is removed
  • CAA has already instituted training- available here or on the CAA Baseball/Softball home page for anyone - provided by the National Federation of State High Schools (NFHS)
  • Coaches will not be rostered unless their concussion training is current
  • All aspects of the law will be STRICTLY upheld by CAA Diamond Sports

ABUSE AWARENESS FOR ADULTS

  • Effective for the 2019 season, Metro Baseball League (MBL) is requiring all coaches to complete an Abuse Awareness For Adults training course offered by USA Baseball. Effective for the 2019 season, CAA Diamond Sports will also require this training for all CAA baseball and softball head and assistant coaches and team managers.
  • The course can be accessed here or from the link on the BB/SB home page. Follow the directions to create an account, add the course to your cart, and complete. It should take about 30 minutes to finish.
    • Once you have completed the course, upload the certificate of completion and send the PDF file to Safety Officer, Kim Flottmeier, minnesotaathletics@gmail.com
  • All coaches and team managers must complete before being added to the team roster.
